Environment Institute of Malaysia (EiMAS)

EiMAS is a training centre under the Department of Environment Malaysia (DOE). EiMAS implement trainings to DOE staff and industry related to environmental pollution control in accordance with the requirements of the legislation under the Environmental Quality Act 1974.

EiMAS AT A GLANCE

EiMAS is located on a 10-acre area within the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Campus in Bangi, Selangor Darul Ehsan. The institute officially commenced operations on 2nd April 2002, with an inauguration ceremony led by YB Dato’ Seri Law Hieng Ding, the Minister of Science, Technology and Environment in Malaysia.

EiMAS seeks to increase the abilities and knowledge of DOE staff in the field of environmental pollution control and enforcement by implementing training through competency courses. In addition, EiMAS organises technical competency courses for the industry to ensure that environmental pollution management is at the forefront of the industry’s focus.

Function
Centre/Unit

  • Identify training needs for DOE members in the field enforcement and prosecution.
  • Providing training programs and developing training modules in the fields of law, enforcement and prosecution.
  • Organizing courses/training in the field law, enforcement and prosecution for DOE citizens.
  • Assessing the effectiveness of training and review the module according to the current requirements of the Department.
  • Identify training needs for DOE staff in the fields of EIA, environmental management and erosion and siltation control.
  • Providing training programs and developing training modules in the field EIA, environmental management and erosion & siltation control.
  • Organize training in the fields of EIA, environmental management, and erosion and siltation control for DOE staff.
  • Organize induction courses for EIA Consultants and Environmental Auditors.
  • Organized Environmental Officer competency courses for EIA projects.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training and review modules according to the current requirements of the Department.
  • Identify training needs for DOE staff in hazardous materials management.
  • Provide training programs and develop training modules in hazardous materials management.
  • Organizing training courses in management hazardous materials and contaminated land for DOE citizens.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training and review modules according to the current requirements of the Department.
  • Offering certification courses to the industry to meet the requirements of Competent Persons (COPs) as stipulated under Section 49A, AKAS 1974.
  • Conducting promotions to the industry for the implementation of the latest environmental requirements regarding the environment.
  • Regulate E i MAS training providers for certification courses.
  • Manage the National Registry of Certified Environmental Professionals (NRCEP).
  • Identify program needs and organize courses/training for DOE staff in the fields of management, soft skills and special training.
  • Assessing the effectiveness of training and review the module according to the current requirements of the Department.
  • Coordinate Overseas Technical Training Cooperation Programs.
  • Managing training programs for domestic and international partners.
  • Process CPD hour applications from training providers.
  • Identify training needs for DOE staff in the field of air pollution control.
  • Provide training programs and development of training modules in the field of air pollution control.
  • Organize training courses in the field of air pollution control.
  • Assessing the effectiveness of training and review the module according to the current requirements of the Department.
  • Identify training needs for DOE staff in the field of water pollution control.
  • Provide training programs and development of training modules in the field of water pollution control.
  • Organize training courses in the field of water pollution control.

  • Manage administrative and financial affairs.
  • Managing dormitory facilities, lecture rooms and sports court facilities.
  • Maintaining E i MAS facilities and security.
  • Plan, manage, implement and maintain the ICT infrastructure that supports E i MAS operations.
  • Develop and maintain application systems that support training management.
  • Carrying out ICT hardware and software procurement activities.
  • Providing technical assistance and operation of ICT equipment.
  • Manage and implement the development of information resources in the library.
  • Providing library services.
  • Implement the updating and digitization of printed and digital material information through the Enviro Digital Library @JAS website.
  • Make announcements and promote library collection materials for information to E i MAS and DOE citizens.
